Dr. William Murphy founded the Woodie Flowers Award in 1996, to recognize the excellence in communication skills amongst FIRST mentors. Dr. Murphy as a child tinkered with machinery, eventually developing his own snow blower which he sold to a company. Dr. Murphy attended Harvard University and graduated in 1946. During the Korean War Dr. Murphy helped develop the world’s first flexible blood bags. Dr. Murphy is considered a key role in the modernization of medical technology within the past century.
